12-Month Habit Challenge

12-Month Habit Challenge

We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit.

– Aristotle

I am excited to write my first post here. I want to start my blog with introducing to my 2023 New Year’s Resolution, which is to create a new habit each month, and if I want to get over ambitious, I would stack the habits, i.e. – carry forward each habit to the subsequent months in the year (this is a bonus).

Why a habit a month?

  • James Clear from “Atomic Habits” (More on this book in a future post) says: “All big things come from small beginnings”. The seed of every habit is a single, tiny decision. Trying to make a lot of changes at once is a recipe for disaster. Being patient and taking baby steps will help us in the long run.
  • Habits are the compound interest of self-improvement. In order to achieve our goals, we need to set systems in place. Habits are these systems.
  • You must have heard the saying: “It takes 21 days to form a habit”. Based on my experience, 21 days is slightly short. One month seems to hit the sweet spot.
  • Habits help build discipline and increase self-confidence. I didn’t want to overwhelm myself by taking a resolution to stick to a habit for the entire year and set myself up for failure. Hence the 30 days challenge. I hope that if the habit helps me, I stick to it for a longer term after the 30 days.

I look forward to blogging my journey here and use this blog to hold myself accountable. Here’s to a new year, new habits and a new journey!

Cheers,

Sirisha
