“A morning walk gives the body a chance to forgive the trials and tribulations of yesterday, to shed its rubbish and mental clutter.”
Terri Guillemets
Happy July 4th! My June’s habit was to take at least 9000 steps a day.
Why 9000 steps a day, especially when my May’s goal was already a step related goal?
- I read recently that my age, 8000 steps a day is minimum.
- I need to push my fitness level a bit
- I am out of ideas ๐
How did it help?
- Resumed hiking. I went on a couple of short hikes. Hopefully I will do more of these in the coming weeks.
- I dragged my husband with me for a few walks in the night. So I got to spend some time with my husband.
- My Mom and Dad accompanied me on some of the walks. I got to spend some quality time with them.
- I have done all my walking after my dinners. Even though evening/night time is the time I have the least energy during the day, walking after dinner made my stomach feel much better. Also, there have been several studies that showed that walking after a meal significantly improves blood sugar levels as opposed to just sitting on the couch or at a desk.
- I didn’t strength train for a couple of months before I resumed it this month. And I got an inbody scan done just before resuming these sessions. I thought my muscle mass would have gone down but to my surprise it didn’t. I guess all the uphill walks and hikes did help.
Challenges
- Walking on a strength training days was hard.
- In an ideal world, I would finish my walks first thing in the morning. I have the most energy first thing in the morning and I am the most efficient and work at a lightning speed at that time. So I prefer to spend that time planning for my work and catching up on projects. That leaves me to do my walks in the night after dinner. That’s when I have the least energy but I have been dragging myself out to get the steps in. To summarize, I haven’t figured out a good routine yet. I hope I do so it doesn’t have to seem so hard.
That’s all for this month. More in August! Until then ..
Cheers,
Sirisha
