The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Hi all! Happy July! I am just a month late in posting my blog on my May habit but better late than never. My habit for May was to walk 7000 steps a day. Rather than choosing a binary Yes/No to define my goal success, I thought I will give stars instead going forward. I met my May goal consistently except for three days. So I give myself a 4 star!

Why 7000 steps?
As you can see from my Apple Watch activity above, April month was a disaster when it came to my fitness. I wanted to get back on track in May. As a first step, I wanted to start small but become consistent. Walking is the simplest activity I could do and can’t give any excuses for not getting my step count in.
There wasn’t any significance in choosing 7000 steps other than that I did at least 7000 steps consistently between the months of Dec 22 and March 23.
How did this goal help me?
- By moving a bit more than before, I felt a bit more confident and good about myself.
- Return to office helped. We started working from office at least three times a week. The days I went to office, getting 7000 steps was a breeze.
- It was initially hard to make myself go out and take a walk. So I took the help of my family and dragged them out with me on some days. As a result, I got to spend more time with family.
- Apple Watch is my biggest motivator. Whenever I wear the watch, I move more, I do better. Watch motivates me to close my three rings – move, exercise and stand rings.
- There were days when I went up and down the stairs just to finish my steps. So the goal motivated me move more than before.
Cheers,
Sirisha
